Business of Comedy: Funny Money or Taxes for Artists, Performers, Comedians!
With Jean-Guy Talbot F.C.P.A. F.C.G.A.
Brought to you in partnership with the Winnipeg Comedy Festival
Wednesday Feb 15, 2023 6pm-8pm CST
An accountant walks into a bar…It’s that time of year folks! TAX SEASON is upon us!
As an Artist, Performer, or Comedian you may be self-employed, work as an employee in a ‘real’ job, or your creative acts may be your side hustle while you’re waiting for your big break. Whether it’s a contract, a day gig, work or services you’ve provided for a business, client, or audience, or you may have received a grant or cheque for royalties, you are going to want to know how to keep more of what you earned and pay less taxes.
There are so many things to know about the in’s and out’s of your income and your taxes. Some people will say, “I just drop it off at any tax prep business and it’s all good.”, or “My Dad’s cousins’ Aunties Niece who went to career college for 4 months does them online for me.” But is it all good? Jean-Guy Talbot will show us some business tax saving ideas.
- Together we will learn:
What revenue is taxable (or not)
What expenses you may deduct from self employed revenues
Advantages and disadvantages of incorporating
Lease vs buying
Partnerships and how they work
How to deal with a CRA auditor
What to bring the accountant/tax preparer to keep fees lower.
And more…
On Feb 15 from 6-8pm CST, pull up a chair to your computer, get a cup of tea and crack open that box of discount Valentine chocolate and tune in while Jean-Guy Talbot walks us through all the funny money you’re dealing with. Maybe you’ll even be able to write off that discount chocolate. We will see you soon!
This workshop is FREE to attend, but you must register by 4pm CST on Wednesday February 15, 2023 and a zoom link will be sent to you by 5pm CST!
Jean-Guy Talbot believes that happiness is a choice you make every morning. He inspires those around him by living these types of insights, and clients and colleagues across North America consider him a friend and a mentor.
Born and raised on a mixed farm, Jean-Guy learned at a very young age to feed the chickens, milk cows, clean the pigpen by hand and to NEVER stand behind a coughing cow.
Starting his accounting career in 1983, he worked in public practice for several years before founding Talbot and Associates on a part time basis in 1987. Growing the practice from a one-person operation in his basement to over 70 staff in 8 locations across Manitoba, he has devoted a tremendous amount of time and energy to research the secrets of operating a better practice. He is now mentoring other accountants & bookkeepers on the path of success. In 2016 Jean-Guy was formally recognized by his peers for having rendered exceptional services to the profession career achievements and received the title of fellow CPA (FCPA).
Jean-Guy has been preparing personal and corporate tax returns for over 35 years. Talbot & Associates files over 8,000 tax returns a year and has gained tremendous experience in advising business owners in all areas of tax, including how to deal with scary CRA auditors.
