Through My Lens

Thursday, November 28th | 12 to 1 pm | Online | FREE

Humans have a tendency to assume that everyone sees the same skies, the same streets, and the same world, in the same way. But can that really be true? How can we know what another person’s visual experience is?

Join artist Amy Amantea for our final Creative Accessibility Across Canada workshop as she shares her work on her interdisciplinary piece, Through My Lens. In Through My Lens, she asks audience members to describe to her the photos she has taken, but never really seen. This interaction opens up a new realm of perception: A reciprocal collision of the visual and non-visual experience.

The show is about connection and perspective – there is no “one way” to see the world.

Watch this short trailer to get a feel for what Through My Lens is all about and register today!

Amy Amantea (she/her) identifies as a white settler, an uninvited guest on the stolen lands of the Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil-waututh first peoples, colonially known as Vancouver, BC.

Amy is an artist with a lived experience of blindness, specifically having a total of 2% vision in one eye. She is also a photographer with a practice that involves walking the city at twilight looking for interesting light patterns and capturing them with her camera.

Creative Accessibility Across Canada is a series of workshops that explore disability art, the experiences of artists with disabilities and how to make art accessible. These workshops are not only for emerging artists with disabilities, but arts organizations and artists at all levels of their career with and without disabilities.

Arts AccessAbility Network Manitoba is a regional not-for-profit artist run charitable organization dedicated to the full inclusion of artists and audiences with disabilities into all facets of the arts community.
