28th Freeze Frame International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages
March 10 - March 16
FreeFreeze Frame International Film Festival for Kids of All Ages brings drama, comedy, fantasy, animation and documentary from Canada, Belgium, Norway, France, Indonesia, Australia and more to the big screen in Winnipeg, March 10 – 16, 2024, between 10 am to 5 pm.
The Opening ceremony and screening on Sunday, March 10 at 1:00 pm is FREE and open to all with the presentation of the film from France, Ernest et Célestine : Le voyage en Charabie. This 2D animated film follows two friends on their journey to return music to the land, and is entertaining for the whole family. Director Jean-Christophe Roger will introduce the screening.
Films in the Freeze Frame 2024 program include:
TOUGH / TEGAR (Bahasa Indonesia w. Eng. sub.) Tegar (10) has special needs and wants to go to school. When his supportive grandfather passes away, Tegar must gather his courage and overcome overwhelming challenges to fulfill his dream and make friends.
TITINA (English) tells the entertaining and exciting story of an almost forgotten voyage of exploration: the conquest of the North Pole by airship in 1926. Funny and charming, the film revives absurd adventures and human emotions, seen through the eyes of the little terrier Titina.
OKTHANKSBYE (Dutch and Dutch sign language w. Eng. sub.) is an adventurous coming-of-age drama about two young deaf girls who go on an unforgettable road trip together where they not only get to know each other better, but also themselves.
MY ROBOT BROTHER (Danish w. Eng. sub.) is set in the near future, where all children have their own robot assistants. Alberte (11) receives Konrad, the most lifelike robot ever seen, for her birthday, and she quickly begins to feel a real connection with him.
SWEET AS (English) With problems on the home front, Murra (16) takes an opportunity to go on a “photo-safari for at-risk kids”. An uplifting coming-of-age road movie about unconventional friendships, first crushes and finding who you are on the road less traveled.
DOUNIA AND THE PRINCESS OF ALEPPO (French w. Eng. sub.) follows Dounia (6) as she leaves Aleppo with a few seeds of nigella, a plant from her country, in her hand. With the help of the princess of Aleppo, Dounia makes the voyage to a new world.
A BUTTERFLY TALE (English) is the heartwarming story of a gutsy and loveable yet inept, one-winged butterfly, named Patrick who stows away in a milkweed trailer in order to be part of the journey of a lifetime.
ADVENTURES IN THE LAND OF ASHA (French w. Eng. sub.) follows Jules, a 9-year-old boy with a rare disease, when he moves with his mother and siblings to his uncle’s home in the countryside and decides to go on an adventure in search of a cure with his new mysterious friend, Asha.
CHUMS (English) is a series about the adventures of a group of very young friends– an eagle, a beaver, a ptarmigan, a rabbit, and a girl–on Turtle Island as they discover their relationship with other animals and their environment on Mother Earth.
