Assiniboine River and Red River speak | Valeri Marina
April 28 at7:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
A Presentation of the 2022 Scott Leroux Fund for Media Arts Exploration by Valeri Marina
“Where do the living memories of the Assiniboine River and Red River float?”
While in residence, Valeri conducted cartographic and sonic research around The Forks, exploring its present-day attributes and its relationship with the history of the area. Valeri worked with various field recording/sonography techniques and approaches and explored its sonic interpretation in VP’s multi-channel audio suite. Her goals for the residency were to explore the connections between current and previous research work and draw continuity between them:
“On the one hand, with the call La Voz del Agua (Chile, 2021), a space for oral experimentation and collective writing carried out together with several Latin American women. And then from the diploma course ”From the Audible to the Aural: The sound turn in the Social Sciences” that provided me with several theoretical-methodological tools that allow me to pose problems and develop socio-acoustic research projects.”
