Back To Basics | The Foundations of Home Audio Recording

FreeWe’re excited to let you know about BACK TO BASICS, a three-part workshop series facilitated by us at the Good + Plenty Producer’s Club, to help you learn the basics of recording audio at home! Join us for one or all sessions to be on your way to making a clean-sounding demo at home. This is also a great refresher for those who want to strengthen their basics and foundation of home recording!
These sessions are Free and open to folks of all genders and all ages. Each workshop will be facilitated by a Manitoba-based woman, 2Spirit, non-binary or gender non-conforming producer with the spirit and heart of the Good + Plenty Producer’s Club in mind: we are all about creating an encouraging, non-competitive space where everyone feels included and where there are NO “stupid” questions. We also believe that we are All students of this craft, and we all have something to learn and all have something to teach, beginner or more advanced!

Home Recording Studio Setup – Facilitator: Mae Laurel
Wednesday, January 31 / 6:30 – 8:30 pm
This workshop will guide you through all the basic equipment you need to start recording at home, the basics of signal flow and how sound travels from your voice to your computer, and techniques to get a nice, clean sound.
All About Digital Audio Workstations, or DAWs – Facilitators: To be announced
Wednesday, February 28 / 6:30 – 8:30 pm
The Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW, is the software your computer uses to track and edit the sound. In small groups based on DAW (Logicx/GarageBand Ableton Live, Reaper) we will walk you through the basics of your DAW, helping you to understand the program you’re using.
Intro to Mixing – Facilitator: Laura Smith (aka DAGGERSS)
Wednesday, March 27 / 6:30 – 8:30 pm
This workshop will teach you the basics of mixing your track, walking through panning, automation, compression, EQ, reverb, and other basic tools.
