BEYOND: Choral Symposium

Calling all current and aspiring choral directors, educators, singers, arts administrators, students, musicians, and other musical leaders! Join Manitoba Choral Association in Winnipeg for BEYOND, MCA’s first-ever choral symposium on May 26-27!
BEYOND, an initiative of MCA’s IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) Special Interest Group, is a unique opportunity to gather to exchange ideas, connect with colleagues, challenge long-held ideas, and experience new ways to think about choir and group singing.

Saturday, May 27: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm & 7:00 – 10:00 pm

Evening Reception & Activities – St. Norbert Arts Centre, Winnipeg
MCA has invited choral arts specialists from Manitoba, Canada, and the USA to present on topics such as Indigenous protocols for choirs, embracing and encouraging cultural diversity in choir, decentralizing power structures, working with transgender voices, decolonizing the choir practice, challenging gender norms, accessibility for choirs, health and well-being, social justice, and more. Presenters will speak to both the Manitoba and wider Canadian contexts and include:

Thanks to the generous funding from Canada Council for the Arts and the Manitoba Accessibility Fund, we are able to offer accessible registration to the choral community for this new event.
Register before April 15 and take advantage of our early-bird pricing for the full weekend for only $165. Students can attend for just $100!
Can’t come for the whole weekend? No problem! Register for the event portions you are able to attend. Or register to receive recordings of selected sessions afterwards (note: the sessions will not be live-streamed). Registration closes May 21, 2023. Accommodations for out-of-town participants can be booked at special rates. Participants have the choice of two accommodation options:
