Dry Media V | An Herbarium Art Workshop

February 25, 2023 - February 26, 2023

$100

This weekend botanical workshop will be a great opportunity to explore our vast plant collection using microscopes and cameras, with artists and botanists as your guides. The cost is $100. Please send a 250-word description of your interest in this workshop to the Assistant Curator: diana.sawatzky@umanitoba.ca by Monday, February 6th.

An herbarium is a biorepository of dried, preserved plant specimens for scientific study. The University of Manitoba Herbarium houses the largest collection of plants and lichens in Manitoba, with over 100,000 specimens. Artists will gain access to the collection, view specimens beneath microscopes, and capture images with a microscope camera. Projects resulting from the workshop (not limited to drawings) will be shown in a group exhibit at the Edge Gallery, opening May 5th, First Friday.

Talks provided by: David Heinrichs (traditional beadwork artist) and Benita Kliewer (biomimetics research)
