Free Zoom Discussion Event | “Exploring Difficult Topics in Your Artwork” with Stacey Abramson

Free! Zoom event! Facilitated discussion for Canadian artists and arts workers interested in d/Deaf and disability art issues! There will be a short presentation followed by an open, facilitated discussion. The goal of the sessions is robust discussion and critical thinking to enrich the practices of d/Deaf and disabled artists, advance the professionalism status of disabled artists/art, and provide feedback to arts organizations and granting agencies about the needs of d/Deaf and disabled artists with an aim to focusing our efforts for the future.
This session’s topic may include:
Sensitivity, honesty, ownership, cultural appropriation, representing realities that you haven’t experienced personally, ramifications/responsibilities, language, checking your privilege, bias, slander, activism, rights and legality, research, target audience/goals, hard truths/boldness vs soft delivery, how to include support for audiences when viewing triggering work, how does your life experience/disability create opportunity and blinders to be aware of in your practice?
