Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the art of creating small abstract sculptures using sustainable materials. This workshop will guide you through the process of transforming everyday waste materials into unique pieces of art. Over the course of three days, you’ll discover how to use recycled materials and paper mache clay to design and construct your own abstract sculptures.
What You’ll Learn:
Techniques for cutting, shaping, and assembling sculpture bases from recycled materials.
Step-by-step instructions on making your own paper mache clay.
Methods for applying paper mache clay to achieve various textures and finishes.
Painting and detailing to bring your sculptures to life.
Workshop Goals:
This workshop aims to foster creativity and promote sustainability in art. You’ll leave with not only a sculpture but also the knowledge and inspiration to continue exploring eco-friendly artistic practices.
Your Instructor:
Hamideh Behgar is a multidisciplinary visual artist from Iran, now residing in Winnipeg, Canada. She holds a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, awarded in 2019, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Manitoba School of Art, awarded in 2023. Her artistic pursuits span various mediums, primarily focusing on sculpture, interactive installations, photography, and design, while also delving into stop-motion animation and screen printing.
Beyond personal experiences, her art reflects the boundless potential of the human imagination, emphasizing the interplay between chance, play, and creativity to facilitate unhindered artistic expression.
Her Master of Fine Arts degree focused on creating toy-like sculptures with tactile and interactive qualities, exemplified in her recent exhibition Embracing Imperfection. She has contributed to a range of group exhibitions across Canada and Iran, with her latest participation at Nuit Blanche Winnipeg in 2023.
