Shisha Embroidery, also known as mirror work embroidery, has been widely used throughout Southwestern Asia and on the Indian subcontinent. The Shisha Embroidery technique is a type of adornment that affixes mirrors to fabric through a variety of stitches. This technique is applicable on many fabrics such as cotton, silk, chiffon, and many more, which can then be turned into attractive apparel and accessories ranging from sarees-blouse to cushions, covers, belts, and purses.
About the instructor:
Nisha Desai has knowledge about the techniques of embroidering small mirrors onto fabric and how to combine them with diverse stitches in order to make animal and flower designs. She has also knowledge about beading called three beads work. Originally from Ahmedabad, the capital of the province of Gujarat, India. Nisha came to Winnipeg with her husband, daughter, and son in April 2012. Trained as a medical laboratory technician, she is now working as a childcare assistant at the Seven Oaks School Division.
