Announcing an exciting new workshop/panel series in collaboration with @videopool and @newmediamb: Merging Mindsets! Our first event is Saturday, November 30th: 3D Printing: Uses, Materials, and Challenges . . Image: Better Living Through Bio-Robotics: NGGH Beluga Drone. 2018. Erika Lincoln. 20-3D prints of beluga whale merged with Global Hawk UAV, gypsum, steel, mirrored acrylic . . 3D printing is revolutionizing how we construct and create. Originally invented to assist designers in rapid-prototyping it has become more accessible and available allowing artists to unleash their creativity in new ways. Join local makers and artists to learn about techniques, software, and challenges with the medium. How can I integrate 3D printing into my artistic practice? Where do I start? What resources are available locally? They will answer all of these questions – and more! . Creative Manitoba’s Careers in the Arts offers youth the chance to participate in a choice of four different group mentorship programs. Each program offers 8 evening sessions and a final event/presentation. Led by an established lead mentor, each session features guest mentors who will introduce youth to all facets of their chosen creative discipline. Start dates vary depending on the chosen discipline, but programs generally start the last week or second last week of February.

This event is free and open to the public. . . The conversation around safer spaces in the arts has been increasingly in the spotlight. How do we, as a community, make our spaces safer for audiences, artists, and workers? Join community members for a free panel discussion on the concepts behind, and importance of safer spaces, and the challenges in creating and maintaining them, with a focus on gender, sexual orientation, and the experiences of Black people, Indigenous people, people of colour, and the people who exist at those intersections. . . 📣Thursday, November 14📣 Artist Boot Camp: Artist Residencies with Grace Han 7-9pm at MAWA, 611 Main St . . $10 for members of MAWA or Creative Manitoba; $20 for non-members. No need to register, just show up! People of all genders welcome! . . Artist residencies offer the opportunity for exchange, focussed work and relationship building with international peers in an informal manner that is unique. This workshop provides information on different residency models. How do you figure out if a particular residency is right for you? What questions should you ask a residency centre? How should you structure your time while you are there? Grace Han will offer tips on applying for residencies and securing arts council funding to help make them happen. . . Grace Han is a ceramic artist originally trained in Seoul, South Korea. She received a BFA from Dankook University, where she specialized in traditional Korean Ceramic techniques and skills, and an MFA from the University of Manitoba. She has participated in residency programs both short-term and long-term, sometimes located in natural settings and sometimes in big cities. She recently completed two concurrent exhibitions at Medalta in Alberta, as the conclusion to a long-term residency there.

Alyson Shane is a writer and business owner from Winnipeg with 17 years’ experience publishing content online. She owns two companies: a digital marketing company called Starling Social, and a startup that automates social media promotion for events called HeyAlfa. A passionate communicator, Alyson serves as the Communications Director for TEDxWinnipeg and gives dozens of talks and workshops focused on marketing strategy each year. When not volunteering or working, you can typically find her gardening, riding her bike, or hammering away at her laptop over a pint of local craft beer.

We had a busy and fulfilling weekend gathering and learning from each other at Smoke Signals Indigenous Communication Conference and #ManitobaShowcase! We look forward to working with more rural and Indigenous communities and improving our programming to meet the needs of all Manitoban artists! TOMORROW: How to Teach an Art Workshop with Christine Brouzes . Wedesday, October 16, 7-9pm, MAWA, 611 Main Street . $10 for members of MAWA or Creative Manitoba; $20 for non-members. No need to register, just show up! People of all genders welcome! . Often artists are asked to teach their medium, technique or craft, but have no experience in how to structure an effective workshop or course. This Boot Camp will present tools to help you impart what you know and will cover the virtues of setting the tone (ground rules), step-by-step learning, learning by example, hand-outs, PowerPoint and varying the rhythm of a workshop (teaching, doing together and doing independently). Teaching art workshops can be an important revenue stream for artists. Learn some skills in this area and increase your income! . Christine Brouzes is an experienced workshop leader. At MAWA, she has shared her passion for beading with experienced and first-time beaders alike. Brouzes is a civil servant who works with families and is the director at Ikwe Safe Ride. She is a former Red River College instructor and early childhood educator, and was a lead facilitator at a MMIWG national round table. 👋 Are you a rural artist? Do you want to take part in our Rural and Community Youth Mentorship Program? Proposals are now being accepted! . . Proposals are assessed as they are received. Find out more at creativemanitoba.ca/programs/youth-mentorship/ or email Jan Skene at jan@creativemanitoba.ca . . Creative Manitoba is seeking mentorship proposals in all artistic disciplines with an artistic, administrative, or technical focus. A mentor may work with an individual or 2-3 youth (ages 16-29) depending on age. Mentors are paid a $1500 honourarium for their 25-hour mentorship commitment. Organizations may receive $200 for setting up a mentorship partnership or offering facility space and supplies. Projects may take place over any period of 5–8 months between October and June. This program is intended for participants residing in communities outside of Winnipeg.

This “Advice Event” will be designed to answer the questions you bring. Learn the basics of investing, long- and short-term financial planning, budgeting, and how to maximize your accounts to save time and money.

We are teaming up with @manitobamusic to bring you a brand new workshop series: Arts Fundamentals! . Join us next Thursday, September 19, for How to Write a Press Release with Erin Lebar and Olivia Michalczuk. . Whether you’re promoting a new album or tour, launching a new business, or opening an art exhibit, there are a handful of things every press release should include. In this workshop, we’ll discuss the key information to have in any release, and cover different styles of releases, how to reach out to media outlets, who to reach out to, and how to find their contact info. Participants will be able to do hands-on work on their own releases in small groups, and are encouraged to come prepared with questions and/or media release drafts to work through with the mentors.
