👋 Are you a rural artist? Do you want to take part in our Rural and Community Youth Mentorship Program? Proposals are now being accepted! . . Proposals are assessed as they are received. Find out more at creativemanitoba.ca/programs/youth-mentorship/ or email Jan Skene at jan@creativemanitoba.ca . . Creative Manitoba is seeking mentorship proposals in all artistic disciplines with an artistic, administrative, or technical focus. A mentor may work with an individual or 2-3 youth (ages 16-29) depending on age. Mentors are paid a $1500 honourarium for their 25-hour mentorship commitment. Organizations may receive $200 for setting up a mentorship partnership or offering facility space and supplies. Projects may take place over any period of 5–8 months between October and June. This program is intended for participants residing in communities outside of Winnipeg.

Moderated by Frances Koncan, our panelists are Joy Balmana, Franklin Fernando, and Larysa Musick. We will explore questions about promoting yourself online and how to balance your arts practice with the often stressful task of having an online presence. Free and open to the public. Need money-management skills in your life and arts practice? Get answers to all your questions about a topic we don’t always know how to broach. What is an RRSP, a GIC, and a Tax-Free Savings Account, and how should they be used? How can you lower service charges? Why is cash flow important? This “Advice Event” will be designed to answer the questions you bring. Learn the basics of investing, long- and short-term financial planning, budgeting, and how to maximize your accounts to save time and money.

We are teaming up with @manitobamusic to bring you a brand new workshop series: Arts Fundamentals! . Join us next Thursday, September 19, for How to Write a Press Release with Erin Lebar and Olivia Michalczuk. . Whether you’re promoting a new album or tour, launching a new business, or opening an art exhibit, there are a handful of things every press release should include. In this workshop, we’ll discuss the key information to have in any release, and cover different styles of releases, how to reach out to media outlets, who to reach out to, and how to find their contact info. Participants will be able to do hands-on work on their own releases in small groups, and are encouraged to come prepared with questions and/or media release drafts to work through with the mentors.

We recognize the unique ability our Indigenous perspectives have to transform and galvanize community, celebrating our role as artists and acknowledging the importance of reclaiming our own narrative as oral historians. What is the historical role of artists within the Indigenous community, what are protocols for engagement, how does technology work within tradition? . The day's discussions have been drawn from conversations happening locally within our community. In addition to the panels and conversations of the day, University of Manitoba Press will be onsite to offer their incredible selection of Indigenous subject and authored books for purchase. . The Historical Progression of Ribbon Shirts is a series of 10 historically accurate ribbon shirts worn by Indigenous men throughout history. It focuses on the changing styles, and how design has been affected by the environment, the impact of settler influence, colonization, and fashions of the day. Fashion always follows some basic rules and within the context of Indigenous culture, we are no different. Indigenous Designers have always been around, but not always ‘labeled’ as such. . .
