we are not separate | kelly haydon
May 6, 2022 - May 31, 2022
Freehaydon is a visual artist based on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ Lands (Vancouver) whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. It has garnered awards, been held in collections, projected onto buildings and published in books and journals.
This exhibition consists of etchings, silkscreen, and relief prints that are gathered around the idea that we are not separate from the natural world. Threaded through the works is a life-long yearning for a more balanced world that holds every voice and cherishes all living beings. In these images the natural world and our internal world commingle, evoking feelings, questions and wonderment.
Having a physical disability compels the artist to lead life at a much slower pace, residing in a place of stillness where connections that would otherwise be obscured by busyness can be experienced. The art is informed by this quiescence.
