Current Connections, Jordan Miller & Sari Habiluk

Exhibition Statement

Individuals experience different emotional reactions resulting in different forms of expression. Abstract intuitive artists, Sari Habiluk and Jordan Miller, translate their emotions into art after experiencing life events, finding strength to regain emotional balance. As empathetic and understanding friends, our connections are drawn together through art.

Art has a healing power, it can capture and celebrate experiences through manipulation of colour, mediums and tool use. Aggressive marks or soft blends, show different emotional connections of thought processes in a moment of time. Creating intuitively while “painting it out” results in discoveries or answers to emotions felt, resolving our mindset.

Colour plays a important role in art conversations changing the mood or feeling. It can be loud and vibrant like a thunderstorm, or soft and subtle like a sunrise. Calmness is felt when painting in soft tones like blues, pink, and purples. Intensity is captured with yellows, red, and oranges, or deep dark purples and blues.

Experience our emotional and spiritual selves as both independent works and dual collaborations. Share our CURRENT CONNECTIONS, in a meeting of the minds with different, yet familiar voices.

In 2011, Jordan was the recipient of the 35th Annual Woman of Distinction Award (arts). In 2015, the Province of Manitoba purchased “Finding Home” which made a permanent home at Canada House on Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jordan was one of three finalists for the Future Leaders Of Manitoba Awards in 2015.

Jordan paints in an abstract style with acrylics, acrylic inks, and alcohol inks. She is always working on her next exhibition. She is the owner and director of cre8ery gallery & studio, works as an art consultant, mentor, and artist with other community members.

Sari Habiluk

Sari Habiluk is an intuitive-abstract visual artist. She has created various commissioned works over the years and has shown her pieces out of a number of different spaces. Most notably, the cre8ery gallery & studio, in Winnipeg’s exchange district.

Being a member of the gallery since 2013 has substantially inspired and influenced the growth of her artistic style. The mentorship under fellow visual artist Jordan Miller, Executive Director of cre8ery gallery and past Woman of Distinction award winner, in particular has been the impetus for her decision to focus on intuitive abstract painting.

Sari’s paintings have a unique style. Her work is vibrant and evokes a sense of whimsy that translates over multiple styles, from landscapes to the abstract. Though, intuitive abstract is where her passion and focus lie. The multiple layers of details and movement flow together, to create complex and intricate emotive worlds, in the moment.

Habiluk has also dipped her brush into the world of murals. She had previously assisted in the priming and background painting for local muralists, Mandy Van Leeuwen and Michel Saint-Hilaire; in the projects at Rainbow Stage in Kildonan Park and the Nellie McClung mural on Sargent Street.

With nine group exhibitions and two solo under her belt, Sari continues to learn and experiment with new techniques, one of them being a comic strip. Her dark comedy comic Un-Supermarket has been published in two university papers, The Uniter and The Manitoban from 2015-2017.

Her body of work continues to grow and evolve as her style explores more intuitive and emotional subject matter.

Privately collected in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and the Yukon; Sari Habiluk, raised in Winnipeg, currently lives and works in Selkirk, MB.
