DATES: July 2 to 27, 2018 (Application deadline: June 20, 2018)
(Online modules posted Mondays. Feedback and small assignments due Fridays. Completed remotely whenever you have the time. )

FREE COURSE (Valued at  $75 for members/$100 for non-members): At no cost, join a focus group version of a NEW course. As a focus group member, you will watch 4 online modules, complete weekly assignments, participate in the forum, and provide feedback. As part of this trial run, your feedback will help us understand if the materials are clear, if the online modules function properly, and if the structure helps your overall learning. You must be a Creative Manitoba member to participate.

Please note: The e-learning modules focus on the planning and strategy of your site, not building the site itself. Suggestions for website platforms (WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, etc.) may be discussed, but the platform you choose is up to you. Our instructor, Don Betts, is well-versed in WordPress and can help you get started, but website platforms are always changing and free resources such as online tutorials and forums exist online for any platform. Creative Manitoba’s e-learning modules are specific to the strategy of an artist’s website, no matter the discipline.

Module 1: Website Purpose: Determine who your site’s audience is and what they need.
Module 2: Content: Determine what content will meet your visitors’ needs.
Module 3: User Experience: Determine the structure of your site so visitors can find what they need.
Module 4: Layout: Determine where all your content should go on each page.

Where to find the materials: Once the course begins and you have been accepted, online content will be made available here: (Learning – Course material)

The forum: The goal of the forum is to create a community of artists helping artists with website questions for years to come. The forum will live on the site for future students to access. It will act as a resource for FAQ and live support administered by the instructor during the course.

Instructor: Don Betts is a freelance website designer and developer who uses WordPress to create website solutions for his clients. He has a background working for not-for-profit organizations where he first started making websites. He has been building websites using WordPress for 8 years and has been active in the Winnipeg WordPress community. Don’s passion for matching good design with the goals of his clients has given him many opportunities to work with amazing people and organizations. He works primarily with small businesses and not-for-profit organizations.

Coaching: Don will be available for one-on-one coaching sessions following the course. You may book with Don directly, or sign up for subsidized coaching sessions in our Expert Advice for Indie Artists program ($30/hr). Dates will be posted at a later date.
