Honouring Your Voice – A cultural look at public speaking.
A strong presenter lets their presence shine through and shows their passion and expertise for their topic. Your authenticity and truth is what makes an engaging speaker.
Over two days Sonya Ballantyne will inspire you to find your spark. You will learn to feel more comfortable promoting your work, and gain confidence presenting your ideas. As an artist, the ability to speak with passion about your projects, ideas and dreams will help you reach your goals. Whether it’s a 30 second pitch, an artist talk, a keynote, a craft sale, or meeting people at gatherings this workshop will help to ground you with confidence. Consider this a public speaking primer for your journey as a creative person. It is an opportunity to find your voice and learn how to speak your truth in a safe space.

Sonya Ballantyne Bio
Sonya Ballantyne of Code Breaker Films, is a filmmaker, writer, and public speaker originally from Misipawistik Cree Nation. Her work focuses on Indigenous women and girls in non-traditional film genres such as horror, sci-fi, and fantasy. She has spoken at such events as We Day Manitoba, TedX Winnipeg, and San Diego and New York Comic Cons. She was recently named one of 60 Canadian female role models as part of a Mattel Barbie campaign. The filmmaker created a petition urging Mattel to create a Cree Barbie. Sonya is a published author, having written the book Kerri Berry Lynn, an Indigenous children’s story written in Cree about a young girl from Misipawistik Cree Nation whose great grandmother gives her seven dogs.

Cancellation policy
Creative Manitoba reserves the right to cancel or postpone any event where a minimum registration level has not been met. Participants registered for an event that is cancelled by Creative Manitoba will receive a full refund.
Registrants may cancel up to one week before the event to receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued to registrants who cancel within one week of the event start date. No refunds will be issued for registrants who do not attend.
Substitute participants are allowed in most cases, but not all. Please check with us ahead of time if you wish to send a substitute participant by calling 204-927-2787.
