Georgina Lightning believes that there is no limit to what we can accomplish when we put our hearts into it. Join us for a master class with celebrated filmmaker, actor and activist Georgina Lightning. Georgina will shed light on the world of filmmaking and how to kick open the door to the film industry. Our conversation will follow her journey as Director, Producer, Actor, Writer, and will inspire you to tell your own story.

Instructor: Georgina Lightning is a Canadian First Nations film director, screenwriter, and actress. Lightning was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and is a Maskwacis (Plains) Cree, registered with the Samson Cree Nation of the Samson Indian Reservation near Edmonton, Alberta. She is an award winning Hollywood actor/filmmaker who moved to Los Angeles with her 3 children in 1990 to attend the prestigious ‘American Academy of Dramatic Arts’ where she was recipient of the “Michael Toma Award”  Lightning continued her studies for a total of 7 years from LA’s top industry filmmakers and studio executives and became an acting coach.

Lightning’s highest achievement to date is as a filmmaker, becoming the first female North American Aboriginal director of a feature-length film.  Her independent production of award winning suspense drama titled, “Older Than America” released worldwide by IFC. “Older Than America” garnered 23 awards including the “White House Epic Award ” in 2010. Lightning was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s, “Top 25 New Faces of Independent Film” in the Summer Issue in 2007, she has been blazing the trail ever since. She co-founded Tribal Alliance Productions, partnering with executive producer Audrey Martinez, as a means to create opportunities for Indigenous filmmakers.

As an actor, Lightning’s most recent acclaim is her Nomination for a “Canadian Screen Award”- nomination was for “Best Supporting Actress on a Recurring role in TV Series” for her role as Tracy Bull in TV series “Blackstone”.  Georgina is an outspoken advocate of North American Aboriginal causes, working to restore a greater common appreciation and awareness of the intrinsic value of North American Aboriginal culture to society in general.

Cancellation policy

Creative Manitoba reserves the right to cancel or postpone any event where a minimum registration level has not been met. Participants registered for an event that is cancelled by Creative Manitoba will receive a full refund.

Registrants may cancel up to one week before the event to receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued to registrants who cancel within one week of the event start date. No refunds will be issued for registrants who do not attend.

Substitute participants are allowed in most cases, but not all. Please check with us ahead of time if you wish to send a substitute participant by calling 204-927-2787.
