Manitoba’s vibrant arts and culture sector is a strength of our community, essential to our well-being and our economy, and is our province’s calling card. The sector is fuelled by innovation, creativity and problem-solving. Following a unique time for arts and culture, an opportunity has emerged to reimagine and reinvent Manitoba’s arts sector and to harness its capacity to stimulate the economic and social well-being of all Manitobans.

Through consultation with the community, Manitobans for the Arts has identified priorities for its current strategic plan that include:

  • Ensuring the arts community is strong, agile, resilient, equitable, and relevant.
  • Igniting Manitobans to connect meaningfully with art forms and arts experiences.
  • Encouraging increased investment in the arts sector.

Manitobans for the Arts seeks a part-time General Manager to propel these plans forward, working closely with the volunteer Board of Directors. This is a position for an independent leader who is comfortable developing and implementing projects and strategies, and collaborating with arts and culture leaders, private-sector partners, and government to ensure the sector comes out of the pandemic thriving – and remains innovative and relevant for all Manitobans.

The key responsibilities of the General Manager are:

1. Project Management

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement activities and events in the strategic plan
  • Develop and manage timelines, partnerships and resources required
  • Harness volunteer resources, including board members
  • Producing events and activities that engage the community
  • Provide accurate and timely reports on activity metrics, progress and forecasts

2. Stakeholder relations

  • Develop and operationalize member recruitment and retention strategies
  • Develop member communications and stewardship
  • Develop relationships with government and private-sector partners

3. Financial Oversight

  • Develop annual and project-specific budgets
  • With board, seeking external financial support for projects as required
  • Working with the bookkeeper to provide timely reporting

4. Operational Management

  • Managing the website, email communications and social media platforms
  • Ensuring good business practices for the organization, including but not limited to file management, preparing cheques and bank deposits, board meeting logistics and maintenance of archival materials.

  • Work experience in the arts or other non-profit environment
  • Project management skills from envisioning to execution
  • Strong communication skills and can articulate the importance of the arts
  • External-relations experience and established networks
  •  Natural ability to build rapport with varied stakeholders
  • Industrious and creative problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work individually and independently
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Bilingualism an asset
  •  Priority will be given to candidates from equity-deserving communities

The position reports to the Board of Directors. We expect that this position is part-time and flexible, with a monthly commitment of hours and a total annual salary of $24,000. We’re open to discussions about how to best structure the position.
