Devising Dance & Text: How to Start and Sustain a process for Dance &Theatre Creation

Looking to dance with some pals and play in imaginative spaces?

In this workshop, we will explore writing as a way to document, artistically archive, and inspire dance & movement. Participants will be guided through both writing and dance/movement exercises that will intersect with each other. Emily & Tanner will use tools from devising contemporary dance, physical theatre and musical theatre practices as participants spend two days exploring theatrical collage and emotional narrative as a throughline in work. This duo hopes to grow your artistic toolkit, providing & reminding participants of different tools/resources / artistic pathways we can utilize at all points during a dance or theatre creation process.

Throughout the workshop, we will reference & use examples of text and choreography from Walk&Talk Theatre’s past productions of “The Last Garden” and upcoming work “End of the Line” (Premiering May 2024 with Theatre Projects Manitoba).

We encourage participants to attend both weekend sessions, but each workshop CAN be standalone. All participants will be encouraged to both write & dance during both sessions.
