What does Reconciliation and Decolonizing mean for museums?

For MCML it includes (but certainly isn’t limited to) actively working to diversify our museum collection to better reflect the community.

In 2023 we launched a fundraising drive to purchase work by artists from under-represented communities.

• MCML donors contributed $1,500.
• This was supplemented with $2,500 from the estate of Delza Longman from a 2022/2023 bequest.

Using these funds, MCML purchased works by ten artists; Adriana Alarcón, PJ Anderson, Tashina Houle-Schlup, Takashi Iwasaki, Naila Janzen, Erin Konsmo, Candace Lipischak, Paul Robles, Fred Spence and Lin Xu.
