Operations & Administration Lead

Operations & Administration Lead

Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers (WCD) is a small but deeply rooted organization with a 61-year history of shaping and supporting contemporary dance in Canada. We call the Rachel Browne Theatre home, right in Winnipeg’s Exchange District – a space that’s as much a creative hub as it is a performance venue. Alongside WCD’s three-show subscription series, we open our doors each season to artists and community members for rehearsals, performances, and events of all kinds.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in the fast-moving, ever-changing world of non-profits; someone who enjoys variety, works well independently, and isn’t afraid to jump in and solve problems as they arise (or before they do).

The Administrator is the operational lifeblood of WCD. You’ll work closely with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors – along with the Venue Technician, third-party contractors, and volunteers – to manage day-to-day accounting and finance, the entire theatre rental process, and all administrative tasks related to preparing for, executing, and wrapping up WCD’s productions.

If you have strong organization skills, good instincts with people, and the ability to juggle many moving pieces, we want to hear from you.

Why This Role Might Be Perfect for You

● You want meaningful work in the arts, not just a job
● You prefer independence and ownership over layers of management
● You’re looking for more than part-time, but not a full year-round role
● You enjoy being part of a tight-knit, collaborative team
● You’re equally comfortable with spreadsheets, people, and problem-solving

Term & Structure

● Status: Permanent
● Hours: 30 hours/week, 41 weeks/year (September–June)
● Start Date: June 1, 2026
● Schedule: Primarily daytime, with evenings/weekends for events and meetings
● Work Style: Flexibility for occasional hybrid work
● Salary: $35,000

What You’ll Do

Keep Things Running Smoothly

● Manage the box office (online and in-person ticket sales, subscriptions)
● Oversee daily operations and general administration
● Update budgets and maintain financial records

Lead Through Action (Not Hierarchy)

● Work closely with the Artistic Director to move strategic priorities forward
● Help shape future planning and identify opportunities to grow the organization’s presence

Own the Details That Matter

● Manage rental agreements and liaise with renters
● Oversee the facility, including maintenance and upgrades

Support Sustainability

● Lead grant writing and reporting for public funding
● Assist the Board with fundraising efforts

Collaborate & Communicate

● Support marketing initiatives and external partners
● Contribute to meeting ticket sales and audience engagement goals
● Work alongside a small team where everyone pitches in

Who You Are

● A self-starter who doesn’t wait to be told what to do
● Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling priorities
● A strong communicator who can work with artists, board members, and the public
● Financially literate (budgets, reports, basic accounting)
● Passionate about the arts and community engagement

What You Bring

You don’t need to check every box but the strongest candidates will bring a mix of the following:

Core Experience

● Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills (both written and verbal)
● Confidence working independently and making decisions when needed
● A knack for problem-solving and keeping things moving forward
● Experience in the arts and/or non-profit sector
● Comfort working with budgets and a general understanding of accounting

Bonus Points If You Have

● Experience with fundraising, audience development, or grant writing
● Familiarity with tools like QuickBooks, Excel, Google Sheets, Eventbrite, Canva, or Microsoft Office
